In March 2025, I started buying products for a website I knew I could build.
I’ve spent years making webshops for clients, but I’d never actually run one myself. So I decided to put everything I know to the test — and it’s fair to say, it’s taken over my house, my time, and my life.
This isn’t just another online shop.
It’s my attempt to prove something — that independent trade can still work in Britain, even when the odds are stacked against us.
Why I Started ManThings.uk
Like a lot of small businesses, mine has had its ups and downs. The truth is, the way we buy and sell things has been hollowed out by multinational middlemen — the Amazons, the Ubers, the platforms that take their cut while squeezing the people actually doing the work.
We’ve all seen it. High Streets closing down. Tradesmen fighting for scraps on apps. Local businesses priced out of their own customers.
It’s broken — and if we don’t start building alternatives, we’ll lose more than just shops. We’ll lose the skills and independence that keep communities alive.
The Experiment: Turning Skills Into Opportunity
I’ve made websites for years, but I realised there’s a gap between knowing how to build them and using them to make a living. That gap — the “skills gap” — traps a lot of good people. Skilled workers. Craftsmen. People who can graft but don’t have the modern digital tools to trade for themselves.
So I decided to build something that could help:
ManThings.uk, a working, live shop that doubles as a training ground.
It sells practical, high-quality gear — tools, kit, and essentials that actually make sense to own. But every sale also supports something bigger: the creation of the Achivo Blueprint, a training system that helps people learn how to run their own independent webshops.
We don’t just talk about business. We build one together.
What the Achivo Blueprint Is
The Achivo Blueprint is the backbone of this project. It’s a hands-on training model that teaches people how to:
- Manage their own e-commerce store
- Handle stock and suppliers
- Create product listings and write copy that sells
- Use modern tools like Xero and AI to save time and cut out the middlemen
The idea’s simple: learn by doing.
Trainees help run ManThings.uk, see what works and what doesn’t, and leave with the skills — and the confidence — to set up their own shop.
